Lins Arquitetos Associados’ daily life is characterized by the hammock that sways on the balcony, the sun shining through the pierced pieces in a dance light and shadow, and the bright color that marks the spaces and brings life.
This family of architects hails from Ceara’s northeastern backlands. The team’s architecture is environmentally conscious and seamlessly integrates into the environment. They use local vernacular and artisanal references to create contemporary projects that are qualified by the built spaces.
Lins Arquitetos Associados was founded in 2011 by Jorge Mauro Soares Lins, George de Menezes Lins and Cintia Menezes Lins de Mateos (father), Cintia Menezes Lins de Mattos (daughter), and Deborah Martins de Oliveira Lins de Oliveira Lins. The team has worked with a variety of scales and programs since then, including the building, the furniture, and the city. Despite the many proportions, the focus remains the same. To present works that reflect the locations where they are placed, absorb the cultural aspects, use materials and labor available in the region, and adapt to the climate, This means that there is an ongoing search for unique, non-reproducible architectural solutions. These solutions are completely dependent on their location.
They dispel the notion that architecture should be expensive or luxurious and instead show that beauty is in simplicity. All strategies have a dual purpose: they can be used in bioclimatic vernacular strategies like double-height ceilings and balconies, as well as in striking colors and whitewashed facades. They also use hollow bricks, brisses or ceramic bricks to allow for the passage of fresh air. These strategies not only provide thermal comfort but also add poetry. The projects also showcase the combination of experimentalism and consolidated construction methods.
